Lake House with Basement Apartment
This home was designed to capture views of a nearby lake and make thoughtful use of the existing slope of the property. The main floor is a full-time residence for our client, and the basement functions as a long-term rental apartment. The layout prioritizes privacy for each unit while simultaneously allowing shared use of laundry and garage spaces. The property is located in a homeowner’s association with hundreds of requirements that we carefully adhered to. The building form was designed to facilitate a simple construction process, and we considered the preferred construction methods of the client’s home builder.
Custom Kitchen Transformation
We redesigned our client’s kitchen to create a serene multi-functional space. We used solid, natural materials including Baltic birch cabinets, concrete countertops, and charred cork floor tiles. Our client works from home often, so we designed the space with a vision of him sitting at the new island for Zoom meetings with the slatted wall as his background.
Ram ProMaster Conversion
Although it’s a small van, it can do almost everything a house can. It is equipped with a slide-out shower, a propane stove, a built-in fridge, tons of counter space, seating for six, a plumbing system with infinite on-demand hot water and a grey water tank, tons of counter space, and an electrical system with three charging methods—solar, shore power and alternator charging. Almost every part of this van was custom-designed to make the ideal home-on-wheels for our client.
McKenzie River Artist’s Studio
On an embankment overlooking the beautiful McKenzie River, we designed an artist studio with views of the river and surrounding forest. We designed the space to maximize natural light, using south-facing dormer windows and a vaulted ceiling. We incorporated exposed joists with natural edges that were milled locally, and we staggered studs for continuous wall insulation.
Visualization for an Acoustic Engineer
We developed product renderings and animations for a world-renowned acoustic engineer. Our renderings were used to market new product assemblies, and our animations were used to teach clients how the products impact the sound in a room.
